For thirteen sears he was a regent of the University of California, was professor of Theory and Practice at the San Francisco Medical College, and filled the chair of Professor of Surgery. His skill as a surgeon was known among the fraternity throughout the State, and his success with difficult operations, gained him much celebrity. He was an expert linguist, and as a classic scholar had few peers.
